»Once upon a time there was a poor widow who had an only son, called Jack.« This is the story of the little boy, Jack, who is sent to the market by his mother one day to sell the cow Milky-White – the last possession of the poor little family. But before he reaches the market, Jack accepts the offer made by a stranger and sells Milky-White for five magic beans. These grow into beanstalks as high as the sky which Jack climbs to reach a strange world above the clouds populated by giants ...

The story of Jack and the Beanstalk has been a fairy tale that has been popular especially in the English-speaking world for ages and which has also been captivating young and old alike in Germany for many years. In his orchestral fairy tale, the German composer Andreas N. Tarkmann, winner of an »Echo Klassik« award, brings the fairy-tale material to life in music. The figures and objects in the plot are each represented by an instrument or group of instruments. Told vividly by a narrator, the story of Jack's adventure thus becomes an exciting and fantastic musical experience!
