Country yokel Claude comes to the city in order to obey the call to arms. Here he meets the »Tribe« grouped around its leader Berger, the Afro-American Hud, pusher Woof, student Sheila and environmental activist Jeannie who all try to talk him out of doing ridiculous military service and to convince him of the beauties of life in the realm of the peaceful ideals of flower children. But does Claude have the strength to resist the claims of an established society?
»Hair« is different. »Hair« is the life sentiment of the peace generation. »Hair« is rebellion against the establishment. »Hair« is free love. »Hair« is a trip on drugs. »Hair« is the revolt against war. »Hair« is flower power. »Hair« is the »American Tribal Love Rock Musical« with songs like »Aquarius«, »Good Morning, Starshine« and »Let the Sunshine In« that have long since become worldwide hits. In no other musical were the ideals of the hippie generation so well expressed as in this Broadway hit from 1967 that Miloš Forman turned into a world famous film in 1979. Following the trend of those exciting years, the authors Galt MacDermot, Gerome Ragni and James Rado broke with the visual conventions of previously established theatre forms and created in an unstructured sequence of scenes a music theatre spectacle that mixed everyday life with a theatre experience, invited the public to play along and heralded the birth of the »rock musical« genre. Forty-seven years after the scandal of its German premiere on 24 October 1968 in Munich’s Theater in der Brienner Strasse, the hippie happening can once again be experienced in Munich, with the fabulous rock music of those years, in a brand new stage production by the musical specialists Gil Mehmert and Melissa King!
