Die Zauberflöte

Prince Tamino is charged by the Queen of the Night to free her daughter from the clutches of the evil Sarastro. The odd but jolly bird catcher Papageno will help him with his task. But scarcely have they come upon Sarastro, when he emerges as a guiding light of goodness and the Queen as a vengeful hell-cat. Or do they? Are good and evil so easy to separate? What powers are actually at work here? On his way to Pamina, Tamino discovers himself and the world anew.

Mozart’s enigmatic opera about love, purification and humanity has been enchanting both adults and children since 1791. General Manager Josef E. Köpplinger stages the magical piece as a story revolving around the secret of transformation, of coming of age – but above all as a declaration of love to the world of imagination.
