Wouldn't it be great to have a genie in a bottle who would make all your dreams come true? This is what the Hawaiian sailor Keawe thinks too when, on a trip ashore, someone offers to sell him a mysterious bottle whose devilish occupant will make all the dreams of its owner come true. But there's a snag: If the bottle belongs to you at the moment you die, you'll go straight to Hell. So it's vital that you sell it again in time, and you must sell it for less than you paid for it! In addition, you mustn't be fooled by the bottle imp when you're using it. Keawe decides to take the risk and buys the bottle – and finds himself in the middle of an adventure that could go seriously wrong!

The idea of a spirit held captive in a bottle is an old one and originally comes from the fairy tales of the Orient. The most famous story today is undoubtedly "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp", followed immediately by Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Bottle Imp" [Der Flaschengeist] from the year 1893. In this, the Scottish author who became famous with novels such as "Treasure Island" and "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", combines the story of the imp that makes every dream come true with the literary motif of the pact with the devil, and sets the story on the island of Hawaii, which he visited for five months in 1889. In a work commissioned by the State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz, the Munich composer Wilfried Hiller ("Der Goggolori", "Das Traumfresserchen") and the Austrian author Felix Mitterer ("Die Piefke-Saga", "Superhenne Hanna") have turned the exciting story about the pact with the devil into an exotic, exciting musical drama for young and old alike which will be premiered in the Carl-Orff-Saal in January 2014!

A musical for all the family: Children's/young people's reductions at all performances.
