Finding himself in difficulties on an Arctic expedition, a scientist meets a culture of living beings whose social and organisational laws have little in common with the world of humans. The cool impulse to discover is confronted with a miraculous world which initially awakens the interest of the researcher, but then arouses empathy and love.
The expeditionary ballet »Atlantis« is based on the concept of two worlds and two different pictures: the world of humans, their unquenchable thirst for knowledge and their merciless technocracy and the fantastic realm of the inhabitants of Atlantis – fabulous, peace-loving, unfathomable, full of alien manners and rituals. In this full-length ballet, Karl Alfred Schreiner deals with eternally relevant themes such as strangeness and alienation and the collision between different cultures and their mutual interaction with each other. At its heart lie the physical, the musical flow, the image in sound and movement.
