Walter Vogelweider

Walter Vogelweider, born in Graz, completed his training as a stage designer at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Graz and has worked as a freelance stage designer since 1990. When he was still a student, he worked with such artists as Martin Kušej, Hans Hoffer, Elfriede Jelinek and Hans Werner Henze.

In addition, he designed a number of national exhibitions and created objects such as the installation »Die alte Dame« for Erste Bank or »Die Installation im alten AKH« in Vienna. Furthermore, he collaborated with Thomas Brezina on a family adventure park and was commissioned by the Seibersdorf Research Centre to design an exhibition for the Alpbach Forum.

Alongside stage sets for countless theatrical productions in the German-speaking world and in Asia, Walter Vogelweider has also developed sets for events, working with such personalities as Joe Zawinul, Ennio Morricone, Mikis Theodorakis, Renato Zanella and Peter Ustinov.

The area in which the artist operates is very diverse, ranging from classics such as Shakespeare, Lessing, Ibsen and Schiller through to contemporary literature such as Achternbusch or Jelinek. In addition, he also works as a designer for operas, operettas and musicals.

From 2002 to 2012, he was responsible as Technical Manager and Stage Designer for the Stockerau Summer Festival. As Art Director, he produced countless creations and concepts for major events and worlds of adventure, such as the »Voestival«, for example, an evening event for 4,000 visitors, or »Abenteuerberge«, a staged adventure world for children in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, which received an award from the Tourist Association. In addition, Walter Vogelweider was also a partner and director of »Vogelweider & Co. KG«, a company which acts as an interdisciplinary interface between marketing and neuroeconomics and developed designs for particular target groups.
