Vasilis Triantafillopoulos

The Greek icon painter Vasilis Triantafillopoulos was born in Melbourne in 1966 and has been living in Greece since 1972. He studied Art History and then devoted himself to icon painting, showing his works in many different exhibitions, including Kentro technis in Melbourne in 1987, Alphington in 1988, an international Marc Chagall exhibition in Vitebsk in Belarus in 1994 and the Viscom Gallery in Melbourne in 1995/1996. Since 1996, his icons have been on view in churches in locations such as Melbourne, Kalamata, Messini, Samos and Pylos.

Since 2006, Vasilis Triantafillopoulos has been working regularly as a stage and costume designer with the director Torsten Fischer. Shared theatrical productions have included Schiller's »Die Jungfrau von Orleans« at the Bad Hersfeld Festival, Logan's »Rot« at Berlin's Renaissance Theatre and April de Angelisʼs »Jumpy« at the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater in Hamburg.

In the world of musical theatre, Vasilis Triantafillopoulos has been responsible for such stagings as Ruzicka's »Hölderlin. Eine Expedition« at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Strauss's »Daphne« at the Semperoper Dresden, Wagner's »Der fliegende Holländer« at Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and a Gluck cycle consisting of »Telemaco«, »Iphigénie en Tauride« and »Iphigénie en Aulide« at Vienna's Theater an der Wien.
