Soloist
At the age of 11, Thomas Hohler, born in Bottrop, played Gavroche in the Duisburg production of »Les Misérables«. Even before his Abitur, he was the national winner of »Jugend musiziert« in the musical category. In the same year, he was a promotional prize winner at the National Singing Competition in Berlin and began studying at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. His first significant engagement was the title role of d’Artagnan in »3 Musketeers« at the Apollo Theatre in Stuttgart. This was followed by other roles such as Woof (»Hair«) in Bolzano, Jack (»Into the Woods«) in Aachen, Simon Zealotes (»Jesus Christ Superstar«), Artie Green (»Sunset Boulevard«), Bobby C (»Saturday Night Fever«) and Dimitri (»Der Schuh des Manitu«), the Donkey (»Shrek«) as well as Frank Crawley (»Rebecca«) at the Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg. At the Staatstheater Darmstadt he played Nick Hurley in »Flashdance« and Jamie Wellerstein in »The Last Five Years«.
Thomas Hohler also appeared at the Capitol Theater Düsseldorf in the musical adaptation of Hape Kerkeling’s »Kein Pardon« as Peter Schlönzke and sang Till on the concept album of »Wenn Rosenblätter fallen«. In »Elisabeth« he appeared as Crown Prince Rudolf as well as Luigi Lucheni in many locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and in Shanghai in China. He was also the first Belgian Rudolf in a Flemish version in Antwerp. He played Emanuel Schikaneder as well as the understudy of the title role in »Mozart!« in Duisburg and Shanghai, Tobi in »Wahnsinn!« in Duisburg and on tour as well as Dimitri in »Anastasia« at the Palladium Theatre in Stuttgart, where he also played Carl Bruner and Sam Wheat in »Ghost«. He also took on the latter role later on tour in Germany. At the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien he sang Simon Zealotes in a concert version of »Jesus Christ Superstar«, at the St. Gallen Theatre he was Mark Cohen in »Rent«.
In addition, he appeared on stage in various premieres: as Wilhelm Jerusalem in »Goethe!« (Bad Hersfeld Festival), Car Dealer in »Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door« (Stadttheater Fürth), Guy von Gisbourne in »Robin Hood ‒ The Musical« (Schlosstheater Fulda), Robin Blake in »Lady Bess« (Theater St. Gallen) and Matteo in »Hello! Again?« by Thomas Hermanns with songs by Howard Carpendale (Musikalische Komödie Leipzig).
