Stefan Cerny

The Austrian bass studied opera, lied and oratorio, as well as musical, operetta and chanson at the conservatory of his hometown Vienna, graduating with distinction in 2004. In addition to his more than 20-year association with the Vienna Volksoper, his career has taken him to, among others. the Vienna State Opera, London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Theater an der Wien, the Bunka Kakian/Tokyo, as well as the Komische Oper Berlin, the Cologne Opera, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Bregenz Festival, the Baden Baden Festival Theatre, the Nuremberg State Theatre and again and again the Gärtnerplatztheater, Further engagements include the Musiktheater Linz, the Salzburger Landestheater, the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the Neue Oper Wien, the Vienna Raimund Theater, the Schauspielhaus Wien, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Dresden Philharmonie, the MC2 Grenoble, the Forum Ludwigsburg, the Lech Classic Festival 2020 and the opera festivals in Jennersdorf and St. Margarethen.

His repertoire includes roles such as Ochs auf Lerchenau (»Der Rosenkavalier«), Sarastro (»Die Zauberflöte«), Rocco (»Fidelio«), Osmin (»Die Entführung aus dem Serail«), Daland (»Der fliegende Holländer«), Doktor (»Wozzeck«), Leporello (»Don Giovanni«), Bartolo (»Le nozze di Figaro«), Sparafucile (»Rigoletto«), Timur (»Turandot«), Colline (»La bohème«), Swallow (»Peter Grimes«), Talbot (»Maria Stuarda«) and King René (»Iolanta«). His artistic path includes collaborations with conductors such as Philippe Jordan, Antonio Pappano, Ádàm Fischer, Daniele Rustioni, Cornelius Meister, Thomas Hengelbrock and directors such as Christof Loy, Peter Konwitschny, Barrie Kosky, Josef E. Köpplinger, Robert Carsen, Tobias Kratzer, Lotte de Beer, Harry Kupfer, and Christine Mielitz.
