Sophia Brommer

Soloist

Sophia Brommer

Sophia Brommer received her musical training with Gabriele Kaiser at the Munich Academy of Music and Theatre, as well as at the August Everding Theatre Academy, where she graduated with a diploma and highest distinction. While still a student, she made her debut as Fiordiligi ("Così fan tutte") at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. At the 61st ARD International Competition, the soprano won 3rd prize, the audience prize and numerous special prizes. She was also awarded the »Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis« and won special prizes from the German Music Council, the Walter Kaminski Foundation and the Württemberg State Government.

Nationally and internationally she can be heard in the great roles of her profession, among others at the Graz Opera as Juliette (»Roméo et Juliette«), Magda (»La rondine«), Konstanze (»Die Entführung aus dem Serail«) and in the title role in »Luisa Miller«, at the Theater St. Gallen as Mimì (»La bohème«) and Marguerite (»Faust«), at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz as Donna Anna (»Don Giovanni«), at the Royal Opera House Copenhagen as Olympia and Antonia (»Les Contes d’Hoffmann«), at the Volksoper Wien as Lisa (»Das Land des Lächelns«), at Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken as Rosalinde (»Die Fledermaus«), at Staatstheater Augsburg as Violetta (»La traviata«), Liù (»Turandot«), Micaëla ("Carmen") as well as in the title roles in »Lucia di Lammermoor« and »Lulu« and at the Aalto Theatre in Essen as »Arminda«.

The singer is also in demand as a concert singer. Her musical partners include conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Friedrich Haider, Bernard Labadie, Ulf Schirmer, Christoph Eschenbach, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Jonathan Nott, Frédéric Chaslin, Dirk Kaftan, as well as directors such as Rolando Villazon, Stefan Herheim, Jan Philipp Gloger, Ben Baur, Thorleifur Örn Arnasson and Tatjana Gürbaca. She works with orchestras such as the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Sophia Brommer also documents the breadth of her repertoire in CD releases on the Oehms Classics label: the solo CD »Aufbruch«, a song homage to Hermann Hesse, and »Promessa« under Dirk Kaftan with Italian and French bel canto arias.
