The Vienna-based conductor and multi-instrumentalist Rubén Dubrovsky was born in Buenos Aires. As artistic director of the Bach Consort Wien, which he co-founded in 1999, he regularly gives concerts at the Vienna Musikverein and the Theater an der Wien. Under his direction, the ensemble has performed at venues such as the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, the Mozart Week in Salzburg, the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Philharmonie in Essen, the Handel Festival in Halle, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona and the Rococo Theatre in Schwetzingen. TV productions of the ensemble with music by Monteverdi, Handel, Bach, Vivaldi and Schubert have been broadcast worldwide, CD recordings have been released by Sony, Harmonia Mundi, Gramola and ORF.

He is also Artistic Director of Third Coast Baroque from Chicago. The ensemble has performed works such as Handel’s oratorio »Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno«, motets by Gaspar Fernández, church music from the Viennese court and Vivaldi arias with mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux in Chicago. As artistic director of the Hohe Tauern Festival (cultural area of Oberpinzgau), which takes place annually in October, Rubén Dubrovsky is committed to the encounter between classical music and the and the living cultural tradition of folk music.

Since his opera debut in 2008 with Vivaldi’s »Orlando furioso« in Bonn, opera has been an important pillar of his conducting activities. He initially concentrated on the stage works and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and conducted staged productions of Handel’s »Giulio Cesare in Egitto«, »Rinaldo«, »Radamisto«, »Agrippina«, »Tamerlano«, »Orlando«, »Semiramide«, »Oreste«, »Semele«, »Serse«, »Alcina« and »Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno« as well as Mozart’s »Mitridate, re di Ponto«, »Idomeneo«, »La clemenza di Tito«, »Le nozze di Figaro«, »Così fan tutte« and »Die Zauberflöte«. He also conducted the premiere of Monteverdi’s »L’incoronazione di Poppea« at the Semperoper Dresden, the Moscow premiere of Handel’s »Rinaldo« at the Bolshoi Theatre and the opening of the Martín y Soler Hall at the Palau de Les Arts Valencia with the opera »L’arbore di Diana«, which he interpreted at the Theater an der Wien, as did Steffani’s »La lotta d'Ercole con Acheloo«.

Rubén Dubrovsky’s symphonic repertoire ranges from the 18th to the 21st century with works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Zemlinsky, Bloch, Stravinsky, Weinberg, Shostakovich, Pärt and Strasnoy. His exploration of Latin American music and its common roots with European baroque music resulted in 2015 in the television production »Bach to the Roots« and the CD »Vidala« (Gramola), which was nominated in two categories for the »Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik«.

He made his debut at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in 2018 with the house premiere of »Semele«. He also conducted »La Cenerentola« and the premiere of »The Rake’s Progress« here. Rubén Dubrovsky is chief conductor of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since season 2023/2024.
