Choreography
Nanine Linning
Nanine Linning, born in Amsterdam in 1977, completed her studies at the Rotterdam Dance Academy in 1998 as one of the first students of choreography. During her training, she was assistant to William Forsythe and Dana Caspersen.
In 2000, she was nominated for the Dutch Culture Prize. Her many awards include the Perspektiv-Preis in 2002 and the Philip Morris Art Award for her work as a whole in 2003. For »Bacon«, she was awarded the Golden Swan in 2006 for the best dance production in the Netherlands. The television station NPS described her in 2007 as the »diva of dance«, the magazine Quote named her »Business Babe of the year« in 2008 and, in the same year, the magazine Viva chose her as one of the 400 most successful women in the Netherlands. In 2010, she received the Theaterkijk Prize for Endless Song of Silence and the De Mus Prize for Dolby. In 2012, she was nominated for the German theatre prize Der FAUST for her choreography of Voice Over, and again in 2013 for ZERO.
From 2001 to 2006, Nanine Linning was the house choreographer for the Scapino Ballet, a major contemporary company for which she developed 12 choreographies with the involvement of a number of composers, DJs and fashion designers. In March 2006, she left Scapino to concentrate on her own Amsterdam company NANINELINNING.NL and to expand her activities by moving into dance operas, music theatre and film. With her own company, Linning created four successful productions in the Netherlands: »Bacon« (5 dancers, inspired by the painter Francis Bacon), »Cry Love« (5 dancers in a cross-over of dance and video installation), »Dolby« (11 dancers in a mix of dance and rock concert) and »Endless Song of Silence« (a duet in which she herself danced).
Since August 2009, in addition to running her company in Amsterdam, she has also been Artistic Director and Senior Choreographer of the Dance Company Theater Osnabrück. Her first production here, »Synthetic Twin«, successfully celebrated its premiere in November 2009. Together with the artistic duo Les Deux Garçons, Nanine Linning created, with »Requiem«, a monumental dance performance with over 90 participants, including dancers, the orchestra, choir and solo singers, which enjoyed over 30 sell-out performances in Osnabrück, Heidelberg and many other cities in the Netherlands.
Since the 2012/2013 season, Nanine Linning has continued her work as Artistic Director and Senior Choreographer of the Dance Company Nanine Linning / Theater Heidelberg. Her first Heidelberg production »ZERO« was given its first performance in January 2013. With the premiere of »ENDLESS« in December 2013, Nanine Linning completed her trilogy on the human existence, after »Voice Over« and »ZERO«. June 2014 saw the premiere of »Philip Glass’s Echnaton«, a large-scale coproduction between the Heidelberg Music Theatre and Nanine Linning's dance company under her direction.
