Light Design
Michael Heidinger
Viennese-born Michael Heidinger has created the lighting design for more than one hundred international stage productions in the fields of drama, opera, operetta, musicals and dance. His artistic career first took him to the Vienna Theatre Centre Forum, the Vienna Theatre, the Wachau Festival, the Thurn-und-Taxis Festival in Regensburg as well as Sankt Margarethen Opera Festival in Burgenland.
As director of the lighting department at Stadttheater Baden bei Wien and the associated Baden Summer Arena, he from 2009 to 2012 developed the lighting design for all of the theatre’s productions. In 2012 he finally moved to Theater in der Josefstadt and shortly thereafter to the Vienna State Opera. As assistant director of the lighting department and lighting inspector he took care of numerous performances and recordings there. Guest appearances with the Vienna State Opera Ballet ultimately took him to the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman.
Since 2013 he has worked regularly for the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, from 2014–2021 he was associated with the house as head of lighting.
