Michael Dangl

The actor and author Michael Dangl appeared in his first theatrical performance at the age of four in the acting group »Karawane Salzburg«. He started to learn the piano two years later. At the age of 18, he joined the Salzburg Landestheater, and this was followed by engagements in Munich, Cologne, Coblenz and Hamburg. In 1998, Helmuth Lohner invited him to Vienna’s Theater in der Josefstadt, where he has been playing the major roles of classical and modern theatre as protagonist ever since. In 2001 he received the »European Culture Prize«, in 2023 the »Ferdinand Raimund Ring« and the professional title »Österreichischer Kammerschauspieler«.

Michael Dangl has appeared at the Salzburg, Reichenau and Bregenz festivals. He makes feature films and TV films, voices literary texts for the radio and creates recitation programmes, and he is particularly pleased when he is able to work with musicians. He has performed in concerts with such artists as Gidon Kremer, Nicolas Altstaedt, Paul Gulda, Julius Berger, Alexander Lonquich, the Kremerata Baltica, Concentus Musicus Wien, Klangforum Wien, the Camerata Salzburg, the Rheinische Philharmonie, the Johann Strauss Orchestra and the Ensemble Reconsil. He regularly appears at various (music) festivals: the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, Styriarte Graz, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Festival Sion, the Gmunden Festival, Kronberg Academy, »Wege durch das Land«, the Eckelshausener Musiktage etc. In Moscow, he played the part of Frosch in »Die Fledermaus« in Russian in the Grand Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

In particular, his programmes with flautist Maria Fedotova combine his passions for literature and music (»Casanova«, »Die Nachtigall«, »7 Minuten vor Weihnachten«.) Michael Dangl is the author of plays and the books »Rampenflucht«, »Schöne Aussicht Nr. 16«, »Grado« (the latter topped the bestseller lists for almost a year), »Im Rausch«, »Anfisa, zu dir ‒ Brief an meine Tochter« and »Orangen für Dostojewskij« (also published in St. Petersburg in Russian translation) and co-author of the comedy »Die Winterrose«.
