Markus Meyer

Markus Meyer, born in Cloppenburg, initially studied biochemistry at Hanover University and then attended the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin. Whilst he was still a student, he obtained a permanent engagement at the Berliner Ensemble, where he interpreted such roles as Leonce (»Leonce und Lena«), Pater Ricardo Fontana (»Der Stellvertreter«) and a Templar (»Nathan der Weise«) under directors such as Robert Wilson, George Tabori, Claus Peymann and Philip Tiedemann. In 2004 he moved to the Burgtheater in Vienna, where he appeared as Brick (»Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach«), Osvald (»Gespenster«), Truffaldino (»Der Diener zweier Herren«), Ludwig (»Ludwig II.«) and in the title role of »Dorian Gray«, amongst others, and worked with, for example, Andrea Breth, Jan Bosse, David Bösch, Bastian Kraft, Stefan Kimmig, Karin Baier, Friederike Heller and Árpád Schilling. In parallel, he was also involved in many radio plays and features for Deutschlandradio Berlin, RBB, ORF, HR, NDR, Radio Bremen, MDR, SWR and SR. In addition, he holds teaching positions in the area of drama at the Vienna Conservatory and at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.

In 2012, Markus Meyer appeared for the first time in a musical theatre production, as Count Lothar (»Ein Walzertraum«) at Vienna's Volksoper, at the Bavarian State Opera he played Haushofmeister in »Ariadne auf Naxos«. He made his debut at the Gärtnerplatztheater in 2013 as the Master of Ceremonies in »Cabaret«. In 2014, he played the Child Catcher in the first continental performance of »Chitty Chitty Bang Bang«.
