Marianne Sägebrecht
Marianne Sägebrecht is one of the great German actresses who also enjoy international success. She made her breakthrough in 1984 with the comedy »Zuckerbaby«, which was considered a great success at the 1985 New York film Festival and in its subsequent US film launch and which was awarded the Ernst Lubitsch Prize. This was followed in 1997 by the Bavarian-US comedy »Out of Rosenheim« directed by Percy Adlon. This film reached cult status, was presented with the German Federal Film Prize and in its subsequent German-US film production »Rosalie Goes Shopping« in 1989 was extremely successful both with film critics and at the box office and as the German entry for the Cannes International Film Festival in 1990. After this, she played alongside actors such as Michel Piccoli (»Martha und ich«), Richard Dreyfuss (»Moon Over Parador«), Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito, Kathleen Turner (»Der Rosenkrieg«), John Malkovich (»Der Unhold«) and Gérard Depardieu (»Asterix und Obelix«).
Since 1997, Marianne Sägebrecht has devoted herself increasingly to television dramas, attracting a large number of fans with her film figure »Marga Engel« in particular. In addition, she is also active as an author and narrator.
Marianne Sägebrecht has received a number of awards for her outstanding achievements, including the Schwabinger Art Prize, the Ernst Hoferichter Prize, the Ernst Lubitsch Prize, the Gold Filmband, the Bambi and the Ciak Film Prize in Cannes. She was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 1990 and the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2002.
