Choreographer

Mari Carrasco

Mari Carrasco is a Stockholm-based dancer and choreographer from Sweden/Chile. She graduated from Balettakademien Stockholm in 2008 and has studied at the Stockholm University of the Arts and at The Dance New Amsterdam in New York. Carrasco has since 2010 been freelancing as a choreographer. She has created pieces both independently and for institutions in Sweden. She has done commission work for The Royal Swedish Opera, the Unga Klara and Riksteatern in Stockholm, Skånes Dansteater in Malmö and for the Regionteater Väst in Borås.

For the past five years, Mari Carrasco has been interested in exploring themes such as groove, rhythm and repetition. She works often closely with composer Mikael Karlsson and has developed her pieces with her own artistic team: Jenny Nordberg (set and costume design) and Mira Svanberg (light design). The are creating together cinematic worlds for the audience to enter.
