Marco Goecke

Marco Goecke trained at the Cologne Ballet Academy, the Heinz Bosl Foundation in Munich and the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, among others. After this, he was taken on as a dancer at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden and the Hagen Theatre. In Hagen, he created his first choreography in 2000 with »Loch«, with which he also entered the Hanover International Choreography Competition in the same year.

From 2001 to 2004, he choreographed for the »Young Choreographers« series of the Noverre Society. In 2002 he accepted an invitation from the New York Choreographic Institute and created a choreography for dancers of the New York City Ballet as part of the Diamond Project Workshop.

In 2003 he won the celebrated »Prix Dom Pérignon« in Hamburg with his choreography »Blushing«. In 2004, Pina Bausch invited him to take his works »Blushing« and »Mopey« to her annual Dance Theatre Festival.

Since 2005, Marco Goecke has been the House Choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet, where he first appeared that year with »Sweet Sweet Sweet«. This was followed in 2006 by »Viciouswishes« and »Der Nussknacker«, his first full-length production for the Stuttgart Ballet, which was nominated in 2007 for the German »Der Faust« dance price. In 2006, Marco Goecke had already received the »Prix Nijinsky«, awarded within the Monaco Dance Forum in Monte Carlo, in the »Up and Coming Choreographer« category. Further works for the Stuttgart Ballet have included »Alben« (2008), the solo »Fancy Goods« (2009) and the full-length dramatic ballet »Orlando« (2010).

Marco Goecke enjoyed great success with his solo work »Äffi« to three songs by Johnny Cash. »Äffi« has been taken over into the repertoire of such companies as the Stuttgart Ballet and the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and has in addition been presented countless times at German and international festivals.

Marco Goecke is closely associated with the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, whose House Choreographer he was appointed in 2005. Since then, he has created the first performances of »Der Rest ist Schweigen« (2005), »Bravo Charlie« (2007), »Supernova« (2009) and »Pierrot Lunaire« (2010) for the company. The full-length ballet »Songs for Drella« was created in 2011 in collaboration with Ed Wubbe. In addition, the Scapino Ballet has taken over a number of his choreographies into its repertoire.

He most recently appeared as a guest at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in the 2013/2014 season with the dance soap »Minutemade«.
