Magdalena Fuchsberger
Born in Salzburg, she studied stage-directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. After permanent engagements as assistant director at the Landestheater Linz and the Oper Stuttgart, she has been working as a freelance music theatre director since 2015. She lives in Berlin.
Her most recent work includes the world premiere of Karola Obermüller’s »gerade sein und mensch werden: sophie scholl« at Theater Heidelberg, the world premiere of Outi Tarkiainen’s »A Room of One’s Own« at Theater Hagen, Wagner’s »The Flying Dutchman« at the opera festival in Plovdiv/ Bulgaria and Verdi’s »La traviata« at the National Opera Tirana and Volkstheater Rostock. The journal »Opernwelt« recognised her production of »Simon Boccanegra« at Theater Hagen as »one of the best Verdi productions in Germany in recent years« and nominated her for it in the category »Young Artist of the Year« in 2019. In 2023 Magdalena Fuchsberger made her directorial debut at the Vienna State Opera with Francis Poulenc’s »Dialogues des Carmélites«, followed by Purcell’s »Dido and Aeneas« (Theater Luzern), Schreker’s »Der Schmied von Gent« (Theater Münster), Verdi’s »Falstaff« (Würzburg), and Britten’s »Death in Venice« that brought her back to the theatre in Heidelberg.
Magdalena Fuchsberger‘s busy 2024/25 season started with productions in Aalto Theater Essen (»Die Zauberflöte«) and in Theater Chemnitz (»La bohème«). After her debut at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz with Handel‘s »Alcina« in January 2025 she will stage Janáčeks »Das schlaue Füchslein« at Theater Münster.
