Stage direction
Lukas Wachernig
Lukas Wachernig first studied theatre, film and media studies at the University of Vienna. This was followed by various internships and assistantships (including at the Schauspielhaus Graz and in the course of opera productions at the Styriarte Graz under Nikolaus Harnoncourt).
In the seasons 14/15 to 20/21 he was engaged as first stage manager at the Munich Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where he worked with directors such as Josef E. Köpplinger, Brigitte Fassbaender, Thomas Hermanns, Torsten Fischer and Peter Konwitschny.
With the production of Peter Schindler's family musical »Zirkus Furioso« in the 16/17 season, he introduced himself for the first time as a director at the Gärtnerplatztheater. In the following seasons, productions of Zimmermann's »Weiße Rose«, Ravel's »L'Heure espagnole«, Orff's »Die Kluge« and Künneke's »Der Vetter aus Dingsda« followed. This production was awarded the Operetta Frog for the BR Klassik season 20/21.
He is also co-founder and artistic director of the »Wandelbühne« in St. Lambrecht, Styria - a theatre collective that aims to bring theatre closer to young audiences in particular.
As a director and author, he works across all genres in German-speaking countries.
