Katerina Fridland

The soprano Katerina Fridland was born in Minsk (Belarus) and grew up in Hamburg. She was already studying singing while still at school as an underage student at the Music Academy in Lübeck. After graduating she switched to the College of Music and Theatre Arts in Hamburg and received training in singing from Hanna Schwarz (song class: Burkhard Kehring). She is currently continuing her singing studies with the American soprano Carolyn Grace. Master courses have taken this singer, among others, to Margreet Honig, Montserrat Caballé, Edda Moser, Helen Donath, Regina Dittrich-Werner, Gemma Visser and Axel Bauni.

Katerina Fridland is a multiple prize winner of »Youth Plays Music« (subject: singing and piano) and has been a recipient of the »Yehudi Menuhin« scholarship. She is additionally a prize winner and finalist of numerous international singing competitions such as the international singing contest »Young Voices« in Tallinn (1st prize for the category of best interpretation), the nationwide competitions in singing in Berlin as well as the »Ferruccio Tagliavini« contest in Deutschlandsberg, and contests in honour of »Mario Lanza« in Filignano (special prize), »Alfredo Giacomotti« in Stradella and »Benvenuto Franci« in Pienza.

Even while still studying, Katerina Fridland made guest appearances in various opera productions, including as the Queen of the Night in »Die Zauberflöte« and Adele in »Die Fledermaus« (Hamburg Chamber Opera), as Bubikopf in »Der Kaiser von Atlantis« and as the noblewoman in »Les Indes galantes« (Hamburg Staatsoper), as the Princess of Granada in »Die Banditen« (Kampnagel) as well as Sivene in »Les Cinesi« and Ottilie in »Im Weißen Rössl« (Kulturwerk am See, Norderstedt). In addition, her repertory includes roles such as Eurydice (»Orfeo ed Euridice«), Marzelline (»Fidelio«), Sophie (»Werther«) and Lisa (»Gräfin Maritza«).

Katerina Fridland made a guest appearance in the 2013/2014 season in the »Wiener Melange« concert series at the Theater & Philharmonie of Thuringia in Gera and Altenburg. 2014–2016 she has been a permanent member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Cottbus where she could be heard and seen as Ottilie (»Wie Einst im Mai«), Ännchen (»Der Freischütz für Kinder«), Frasquita (»Carmen«), Princess (»Sechse kommen durch die Welt«), Queen of the Night (»Die Zauberflöte für Kinder«), Fifth Maiden (»Elektra«), Blondchen (»Die Entführung aus dem Serail«) as well as Una voce dal cielo und Tebaldo (»Don Carlos«).
