Stage and Costume Design
Karl Fehringer
Karl Fehringer, born in Lower Austria, and Judith Leikauf, born in Styria, met during their training at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and have been working as a set design team ever since.
After initial room installations, videos and stage designs for the independent theatre scene in Vienna and assistantships at Graz Opera and the Vienna Burgtheater, their work as stage and costume designers has taken them to such places as the Schauspielhaus and Opera in Kiel, the St Gallen Theatre, the Klagenfurt City Theatre, Erfurt Theatre, the Volkstheater in Vienna and Vienna's Theater der Jugend. They worked for twelve years for the Melk Summer Festival.
Together, Judith Leikauf and Karl Fehringer have so far realised 90 theatrical projects, including many premieres and first performances, such as Paulus Hochgatterer's »Casanova«, Franzobel's »Krautflut«, Andreas Staudinger's »Dark Side of the Moon« and George Tabori's »Insomnia«.
At the Gärtnerplatztheater, they have both created the sets for »Das Dschungelbuch« and »Der Flaschengeist« and the stage design of »Chitty Chitty Bang Bang«.
