Karl Bernewitz

Karl Bernewitz received his basic musical training in the choir of St Thomas's Church in Leipzig. After this, he studied orchestral conducting with Ekkehard Klemm and Steffen Leißner at the »Carl-Maria von Weber« Academy of Music in Dresden.

During an Erasmus study period in Stockholm, he continued his studies with B. T. Andersson and Daniel Harding and attended masterclasses run by Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Rumon Gamba and Christian Kluttig. He gained initial conducting experience as, i.a., musical assistant at the Saxony State Theatres, the Norrlandsoperan Umea (Sweden), at the Royal Opera in Stockholm and with the Young Ensemble of the Saxony State Opera in Dresden.

Karl Bernewitz was Deputy Chorus Director at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz from 2015/2016 to 2017/2018.
