Soloist
The Mainz-born singer and actress Julia Klotz obtained her degree at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre in 2006. While still studying, she appeared as Mary Magdalene in »Jesus Christ Superstar« and as Hope Harcourt in »Anything Goes« at the Nordhausen Theatre and in the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang, Germanyʼs national singing competition, in December 2005 she won the German Stage Association’s prize for Best Performer in a Scene from a Musical.
Immediately after her studies she was a member of the actorsʼ ensemble at the Heilbronn Theatre for two years, demonstrating her versatility in musicals, plays and operettas with roles such as Josepha Vogelhuber in »Im weißen Rössl«, Gwendolen Fairfax in Oscar Wilde’s »Bunbury« and the title role of »Sweet Charity«. She received the »Kilian 2007 of the City of Heilbronn« for »Best Female Supporting Role« for her role of Norma Cassidy in »Victor/Victoria«. She made her TV debut as a guest in the SWR programme »Menschen des Jahres 2006«.
This was followed by appearances in such roles as Eliza Doolittle in »My Fair Lady« at the Linz Regional Theatre, Basel Theatre and Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, as Luise Meyer in the Swiss musical »Heidi«, Scaramouche in »We Will Rock You« at the Apollo Theatre Stuttgart, Julia de Weert in »Der Vetter aus Dingsda« at Heilbronn Theatre, the title role of »Sweet Charity« at the Wiesbaden State Theatre, as a soloist in Stefan Huber’s and Michael Freiʼs first performance of »White!« at the Heilbronn Theatre and as Pam in Gil Mehmertʼs production of »The Full Monty« at the Dortmund Theatre.
She embodied the title role in »Evita« as well as Emma in »Jekyll & Hyde« at the Staatstheater Kassel, Bianca/Lois Lane in »Kiss me, Kate« at the Staatsoper Hannover, Betty Schäfer in »Sunset Boulevard« at the Theater Pforzheim, Inga in in »Young Frankenstein« at the Oper Halle, played in the world premiere of »Hammerfrauen« at the theatre »Die Wühlmäuse« in Berlin and premiered the musical monologue »Galathea bleibt« by Martin G. Berger and Jasper Sonne in Berlin. With the same team she shot the music short film »New Deal«. She also appeared in several short films and in the RTL series »Alles was zählt«.
She is making her debut at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in the first performance of Marc Schubringʼs and Wolfgang Adenbergʼs musical »Gefährliche Liebschaften«. Her performance as Madame de Tourvel gained her the 2015 German Musical Theatre Prize as »Best Main Actress«. At the Gärtnerplatztheater she played as well Countess Charlotte Malcolm (»A Little Night Music«), Hilde Tobler (»Drei Männer im Schnee«), Ivy Smith (»On the Town«) and Spelunken-Jenny (»Die Dreigroschenoper«).
