Jürgen Franz Kirner
Jürgen Franz Kirner lives and works as a freelance stage and costume designer in Berlin. He studied visual communication and stage design in Kassel, Hamburg and Berlin and worked as an assistant with Robert Wilson, among others. Since 2001 he has been active with numerous visual works in the fields of drama, musical theatre and dance. His work has taken him to the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (»Medusa«), the Halle Opera House, the Leipzig Opera House, the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, the Mannheim National Theatre, the St. Gallen Theatre, the Bayreuth Festival and many other venues. Gallen, the Bayreuth Festival (»Das Liebesverbot«, 2013), the Salzburg Festspielhaus (»Tosca«, »Der fliegende Holländer«), the Graz Opera, the Karlsruhe State Ballet, the Grandes Ballets des Cannadiens in Montréal as well as Tel Aviv (»Die Entführung aus dem Serail«), Bern, St. Gallen, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Montpellier and Rome. As artist-in-residence of the Goethe-Institut, an acting tour took him to Salvador do Bahia, Brazil.
He has collaborated with the Slovenian director Sebastijan Horvath on premieres at the Gavella Theatre in Zagreb, the National Theatre in Rijeka, the National Theatre in Ljubljana, the Teatro Stabile in Trieste and the Bitef Festival in Belgrade. He has also worked regularly with directors such as Pascale Chevroton, Peter Lund, Bernd Mottl, Patrick Schlösser, Aron Stiehl and Ansgar Weigner.
In the field of dance, he has won two »Faust« awards together with choreographer Bridget Breiner and the Ballett im Revier, in 2013 for »Russ« and in 2015 for »Charlotte Salomon«.
