Soloist
Josef Ellers was born in Klagenfurt and studied acting at the Vienna Conservatory. In 2013‒2016 he was a member of the ensemble at Vienna’s Theater in der Josefstadt, where his roles included Gavrillo Princip (»Die Schüsse von Sarajevo«). He has also been a soloist at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since 2016 in several productions, such as Janczy in »Viktoria und ihr Husar«. In 2017 and 2018 he made guest appearances at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt and played Richard in »Richard III« and Brutus in Shakespeare’s »Julius Caesar« at the Bronski & Grünberg Theater in Vienna. In 2020, he made his debut at the Semperoper Dresden in »La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein« and also regularly performs the monologues »#Werther« and »Leutenant Gustl« in schools throughout the German-speaking world. Since 2019 he can be seen in the international BBC series »Vienna Blood« in the role of investigator Eugen Hausmann and has been performing Turrini’s scandal play »Rozznjogd« at the Rabenhoftheater in Vienna since September 2021.
