Jasmina Sakr

The soprano Jasmina Sakr was born in Vienna and completed her singing and acting studies at the Vienna Conservatory with honours. During her studies, she won two prizes at the Vienna Fidelio Competition. She also has extensive dance training ranging from ballet and jazz dance to tap dance.

After completing her studies, she worked primarily in musicals and appeared in productions at home and abroad, including as Juliet (»Romeo und Julia«), Esmeralda (»Der Glöckner von Notre Dame«), Johanna (»Sweeney Todd«) and in several world premieres. The role of Maria (»West Side Story«) took her to the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in the original Broadway production, the Hamburg State Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin and the St. Gallen Theatre, among others. She now concentrates on the classical opera and operetta repertoire and has made guest appearances in roles such as as Susanna (»Le nozze di Figaro«) at the Komische Oper Berlin, as Gabrielle (»La Vie parisienne«) at the Volksoper Vienna, as Arsena (»Der Zigeunerbaron«) in a concert performance with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, as Ciboletta (»Eine Nacht in Venedig«) at the Opéra National de Lyon and as Fiakermilli (»Arabella«) at the Leipzig Opera and as Electre in André Campras’ »Idoménée« at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre.

From 2017‒2019, she was a member of the ensemble at the Gärtnerplatztheater, where her roles included as Valencienne (»Die lustige Witwe«), Gretchen (»Der Wildschütz«), Papagena (»Die Zauberflöte«), Mascha (»Der tapfere Soldat«), Luise (»Liliom«), Mabel Gibson (»Die Zirkusprinzessin«), Zerlina (»Don Giovanni«), Despina (»Così fan tutte«) and Musetta (»La bohème«).

In 2022, she made her role debut as Countess Zedlau (»Wiener Blut«) and sang the title role in »Cloco« at the Braunschweig Theatre. In 2023, she appeared as Silvia (»Stumme Serenade«) on the stage of the Vienna Chamber Opera (VBW) and created the title role of Ruth Maier in Gisle Kverndokk’s musical »Briefe von Ruth«, for which she was awarded the »German Musical Theatre Prize 2023« as »Best Leading Actress«.
