Johannes Braun
Johannes Braun studied orchestral conducting in Karlsruhe with Andreas Weiss and in Weimar with Nicolas Pasquet and Ekhart Wycik. Master classes with Bernard Haitink, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Alessandro de Marchi, Roberto Paternostro, Peter Gülke and Johannes Schlaefli complemented his studies. In 2012 he assisted François Xavier Roth with the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden/Freiburg. In 2014 he was assistant to Rüdiger Bohn at the European Workshop for Contemporary Music as part of the Darmstadt Summer Course. Further assistantships with Marcus Bosch, Clemens Schuldt and Sylvain Cambreling took him to the Staatstheater Nürnberg (2015), the Staatstheater Mainz (2015) and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (2016). He took over the musical direction of the opera projects »Die Liebesabenteuer des Chevalier Faublas« (2012), »Don Juan« (2014) and »Die romanische Lucretia« (2015) at the Karlsruhe Schlosskonzerte. In 2017, he took over the musical direction of Offenbach’s »Orphée aux enfers« at the »Oper Oder-Spree« festival.
In the context of concert engagements Johannes Braun has so far worked with the Dortmund Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Musical Comedy Leipzig, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Philharmonic Hamburg, the Heidelberg Symphony, the Philharmonic Hradec Kralov, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt, the Jena Philharmonic, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, the Northwest German Philharmonic Herford, the New Philharmonic Westphalia, the Nuremberg Symphony, the Philharmonic South Westphalia and the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic.
In 2014–2019 he was a scholarship holder in the Conductors’ Forum of the German Music Council, where he received special support as the »Maestro of Tomorrow«. In 2016 he was awarded the Ernst von Schuch Prize and was a finalist in the Critical Orchestra®. In 2017, he took 2nd place in the 8th Conducting Competition of the Central German Music Academies with the MDR Symphony Orchestra.
Since the 2017/2018 season, Johannes Braun has been engaged as 1st Kapellmeister at the Landestheater Coburg, where he is active in music theatre, ballet and symphonic music. He has conducted productions including »The Nutcracker«, »La Cenerentola«, »L’Oiseau de feu«, »Die Zauberflöte«, »Le nozze di Figaro« and »Così fan tutte«, as well as »Das Rheingold«, »Peter Grimes«, »Carmen« and »Rusalka«.
