Thomas Kaiser

Costume designer Thomas Kaiser first trained as a men’s tailor at the Lower Saxony State Theatre in Hanover and then as a master of ladies’ garments at the University of Applied Sciences for Fashion and Design in Hamburg. After several years as master of ladies’ garments and head of department at the Krefeld/Mönchengladbach Theatre, he went to the Aalto Theatre in Essen as master of ladies’ garments. In 1999 he returned to the Lower Saxony State Theatre in Hanover as head of the ladies’ costume department, where he became costume director in 2004. Since 2005 he has been working as a costume designer, freelancing since 2008.

He has designed costumes for plays as well as for ballet and opera, among others for the Bayreuth Festival, the Teatro Perez Galdòs Gran Canaria, the Staatstheater Mainz, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the Theater Regensburg, the Theater St. Gallen, the New National Theatre Tokyo, the Prague State Opera, the Theater Coburg and the Freilichtspiele Wunsiedel. He has worked with artists such as Torsten Blanke, Valentina Carrasco, Hansjörg Hack, Jörg Mannes, Martin Chaix, Lydia Steier, Matthias von Stegmann, Christian Stadelhofer, Katharina Torwesten and Katharina Wagner.
