Emma Sventelius

The Swedish mezzo soprano Emma Sventelius comes from Lund and studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory in Copenhagen and the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna. She completed her vocal training at the University College of Opera in Stockholm with the Swedish tenor Erik Årman and in 2017 made her international debut as Suzuki (»Madama Butterfly«) at Deutsche Oper am Rhein. There followed engagements as Carmen at the Malmö Opera and as Orlando at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. In 2019 she became a member of the ensemble at Bonn Opera and sang there in roles like Octavian (»Rosenkavalier«) as which she appeared also at the Volksoper Wien, and Cherubino (»Le nozze di Figaro«) which she also interpreted in February 2020 in Stockholm. Her repertoire extends from the magician in Purcell’s »Dido and Aeneas« to Madame Flora in Menotti’s »The Medium« and in the concert field also includes works such as Mozart’s »Requiem«, Pergolesi’s »Stabat Mater« and even Bach’s »Passion of Matthew« and »Christmas Oratorio«. She has been awarded numerous prizes, most recently with the Birgit Nilsson Scholarship in 2020. Since the season 2021/2022, she is member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where she is already known as Olga (»Eugen Onegin«).
