Julia Sturzlbaum

The young Viennese singer Julia Sturzlbaum completed her course of studies in »musical entertainment theatre« at the Vienna Municipal University of Music and Art (MUK). Before that, she was for several years a member of the children’s choir of the Vienna Volksoper and performed there in numerous productions such as »Gräfin Mariza«, »Turandot« and »Fiddler on the Roof«. From 2008 to 2016 she completed training in dance with Ivana Neuweg for jazz, ballet and step dancing in the course of which she took part in numerous competitions. Having graduated from the Vienna Music Gymnasium she additionally took piano lessons from Elisabeth Eschwé. Currently she is rounding out her voice training with Daniela Fally.

In 2018 Julia Sturzlbaum won the Walter Jurmann Singing Competition and has since then been heard on stage as a soloist in Bernstein’s »Mass« at the Vienna Musikverein, in »Der Vogelhändler« at the Langenlois Festival and as Chloé in the Offenbach operetta »Daphnis et Chloé«. There followed appearances as Aphrodite and Calypso in Daniel Große Boymann’s and Alexander Kuchinka’s »Odysseus fährt irr« (directed by Daniel Große Boymann) and as Jenna Rolan in the German language premiere of the Broadway musical »Be More Chill« (directed by Werner Sobotka). In 2019 she debuted in the role of Pauline in »La Vie Parisienne« at the Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl (directed by Markus Kupferblum) and performed there as well in the ensemble in »Im weißen Rössl« (directed by Thomas Enzinger, choreographed by Ramesh Nair). In 2020 she won the young talent prize of the Proskenion Foundation for Performing Arts, in 2021 she won the Heinrich Strecker Competition.

As of the 2020/2021 season Julia Sturzlbaum is an ensemble member at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz where she interpretated such roles as Despina (»Così fan tutte«), Pepi (»Wiener Blut«), Eliza (»My Fair Lady«), Hilde (»Drei Männer im Schnee«), Sandy Lester (»Tootsie«), Judith aus Judäa in Monty Python’s »Not the Messiah« and as Christel von der Post (»Der Vogelhändler«).
