Günter Papendell

Günter Papendell, born in Krefeld, began his musical career with the Augsburg Cathedral Choristers and then studied at the Universities of Music in Cologne and Munich. He was a prize-winner and finalist in various competitions, such as the ARD Music Competition and the Belvedere Singing Competition.

From 2004 to 2007, he was a member of the ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, moving to the Komische Oper in Berlin in 2007. He also made guest appearances at the Semperoper Dresden, Vienna's Volksoper, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the National Theatres in Mannheim and Weimar. His repertoire includes roles such as Figaro (»Il barbiere di Siviglia«), Conte Almaviva (»Le nozze di Figaro«), Malatesta (»Don Pasquale«), Paolo (»Simone Boccanegra«), Giorgio Germont (»La traviata«), Marquis Posa (»Don Carlo«), Escamillo (»Carmen«), Marcello (»La bohème«) and the title roles in »Eugen Onegin« und »Gianni Schicchi«.

He has appeared as a recitalist and concert singer at such venues as the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Prinzregententheater in Munich and festivals such as the Swabian Spring, the Mondsee Festival and the »Sagra Musicale Umbra« in Perugia.

He has also worked with artists such as Simon Rattle, Marcello Viotti and Stefan Vladar and music groups such as the Bavarian and Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Philharmonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg and the Duisburg Philharmonic.
