Eric Fennell
The German-American tenor Eric Fennell was born in Pennsylvania and studied in Gettysburg and Boston. He made his debut as Rodolfo in James Robinson’s productions of »La bohème« at Glimmerglass Opera. This was followed by six seasons at New York City Opera with roles such as Alfredo (»La traviata«) and Narraboth (»Salome«). In 2009 he made his European debut as Camille de Rossillon (»The Merry Widow«) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and appeared in Verdi’s »Requiem« with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Since then he has sung roles such as Hoffmann (»Les Contes d'Hoffmann«) at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Hawaii Opera Theatre, Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Lithuanian National Opera, Roméo (»Roméo et Juliette«) at the Greek National Opera and Duke of Mantua (»Rigoletto«) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Prague National Theatre. He has also appeared as Don José (»Carmen«), Pinkerton (»Madama Butterfly«), Robert (»Robert Devereux«), Werther, Tamino (»The Magic Flute«), Edgardo (»Lucia di Lammermoor«), Des Grieux (»Manon«) and Faust at operas all over the world. His concert repertoire includes Mozart’s »Requiem«, which he sang in the Arena di Verona, as well as works such as Puccini’s »Messa di Gloria«, Handel’s »Messiah«, Beethoven’s »Missa solemnis« and Rossini’s »Stabat mater«. He made his debut at the Gärtnerplatztheater as the Duke of Mantua.
