Edith Haller

After her training at the Salzburg Mozarteum, Edith Haller won 1st prize in the Italian »Mario Lanza« singing competition in Filignano in 2003. Her early engagements took the Italian soprano to Salzburg, Prague and Ljubljana, followed by permanent posts at the City Theatre St Gallen and the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe. Here, Edith Haller sang roles such as Senta (»Der fliegende Holländer«), Sieglinde (»Die Walküre«), Agathe (»Der Freischütz«), Contessa (»Le nozze di Figaro«), Desdemona (»Otello«) and Ursula (»Mathis der Maler«).

From 2006 to 2010, Edith Haller made guest appearances at the Bayreuth Festival as Freia (»Das Rheingold«), Helmwige and Sieglinde (»Die Walküre«) and the 3rd Norn and Gutrune (»Götterdämmerung«) under the baton of Christian Thielemann. She made role debuts at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Elsa (»Lohengrin«), the Teatro Real Madrid as Elisabeth (»Tannhäuser«), the Hamburg State Opera as Eva (»Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«), the Klagenfurt City Theatre as Leonore (»Fidelio«) and the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe in the title role of »Euryanthe«. In the 2010/2011 season she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in the role of Sieglinde (»Die Walküre«) and her role debut as Chrysothemis (»Elektra«) at the Cologne Opera. This was followed at Theater Basel by her role and house debut as Marie (»Wozzeck«). In addition, she has performed on the stage of the Aalto Theater Essen, the Leipzig Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Zurich Opera, the Opéra National de Montpellier and the Opéra National de Paris, appeared with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under the baton of Marek Janowski and sang the role of Badi’at in Henze's »L´Upupa« with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Edith Haller returned to the Vienna State Opera in the role of Rosalinde (»Die Fledermaus«) and in 2014 she took over the role of Elsa (»Lohengrin«) at the Bayreuth Festival at short notice.
