Dirk Driesang

Dirk Driesang was born in Bad Kreuznach and initially studied chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz after graduating from high school. In 1988, he transferred to the Peter Cornelius Conservatory, where he studied music, specialising in singing. At the same time, he received staging lessons at the Mainz Opera School under the direction of Karin Mauksch and Christof Loy. He gained his first choral experience with the Mainz University Choir in performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s »Requiem«, Leonard Bernstein’s »Chichester Psalms« and in various oratorios. He was also a member of the Mainz Bach Ensemble, with whom he also took part in conducting courses with Sergiu Celibidache. Even before he graduated in 1994 with a degree in opera and concert singing, he had already made his first solo appearances at the Mainz State Theatre. After completing his training, he continued to take private singing lessons with Ines Malaval and Peter Petrov. Before Dirk Driesang was engaged as 2nd bass in the choir of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in 1996, he worked as a choirmaster and singing teacher and performed as a concert singer.
