Dietrich von Grebmer

Dietrich von Grebmer was born in Bruneck (South Tyrol) and now lives in Berlin. After studying at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, he started his career as assistant at the Salzburg Festival, the Zurich Opera House and the Schaubühne in Berlin. As a set and costume designer, he has worked in the fields of opera, operetta, musical and drama at various opera houses and theatres in Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands.

He has worked at such theatres as the National Theatre in Weimar (»Wozzeck«, »Die Wahlverwandschaften«, »Liebes Leid und Lust«), at the State Theatres in Wiesbaden and Mainz  (»Ritter Blaubart«, »Orpheus in der Unterwelt«), at the Schaubühne Berlin (»Der nackte Michelangelo«) and at the Nationale Reisopera (»Herzog Blaubarts Burg«/»Erwartung«, both with George Tabori).

In the Mozart Year of 2006, he was engaged at the Vienna State Opera for »Bastien und Bastienne« and was responsible for the costumes for a Mozart potpourri at the Opera Ball in Vienna. Other engagements have taken him to such cities as Leipzig, Meiningen, Dresden, Linz, Vienna, Krefeld,  Düsseldorf, Heidelberg and Cologne.

He has collaborated with Brigitte Fassbaender for many years. Joint productions include »La Cenerentola« in Coburg, »Arabella« at the Opera du Rhin Strasbourg, »Die Fledermaus« at the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover and »Der Rosenkavalier« at the Landestheater Innsbruck and the Baden-Baden Festival.
