David Špaňhel
The Czech bass David Špaňhel was born in Uherské Hradiště and received his vocal training at the Pardubice Conservatory under Václav Zítek, which he completed in 2001 and during which he was awarded 3rd prize in the »Song and Opera« category at a vocal competition among all Czech conservatories in 1998. Immediately after completing his studies, he joined the choir of the National Theatre in Prague. In 2003, he joined the Prague Chamber Choir as Bass 2 with solo duties, with which he also performed numerous international concerts throughout Europe and beyond, including at the opera festivals in Wexford (Ireland), Pesaro (Italy), La Coruña (Spain) and Beirut (Lebanon). In 2006 and 2007 he accompanied Andrea Bocelli’s European tour as a chorister. He has been a member of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz choir as bass 2 since September 2007. Here he also regularly takes on solo roles such as Harbour Officer (»Beauty and the Beast«), Polish Father (»Death in Venice«), Cockney (»My Fair Lady«), Coroner (»The Wizard of Oz«), Sailor (»Peter Grimes«), Nicola (»Momo«) and in »Die Entführung aus der Serail«.
