Csilla Csövari

Csilla Csövari was born in Kiskunhalas (Hungary) and studied singing in her home country, initially at the Leó-Weiner-Conservatory and from 2001 to 2006 at the Franz-Liszt-Music Academy in Budapest with Júlia Bikfalvy and Erika Sziklay. Further study periods took her to Julie Kaufmann at the Berlin University of the Arts, where she gained a degree in Singing and Drama in 2008, followed by a degree with distinction in Opera in 2009. In addition, she attended masterclasses with Kiri Te Kanawa, Kurt Moll, Éva Marton, Krisztina Laki and Júlia Hamari.

While she was still a student, Csilla Csövari 2008 was taken on by the Opera Studio at Cologne Opera, where she appeared in such roles as the Sandman and the Dew Fairy (»Hänsel und Gretel«), the Italian Singer (»Capriccio«), Tebaldo (»Don Carlo«) and Olympia (»Les Contes dʼHoffmann«). In 2010, she made her début in the role of Blonde (»Die Entführung aus dem Serail«) as a member of the ensemble of Cologne Opera, which was followed by the roles of Stasi (»Die Csárdásfürstin«) and the high soprano in the first performance of Stockhausen's »Sonntag aus Licht«.

Guest performances have taken the lyrical coloratura soprano to such venues as the Cottbus State Theatre (Adele in »Die Fledermaus«), the Volkstheater Rostock (Marie in »La fille du régiment«) and the Nuremberg State Theatre (in roles such as La Folie in »Platée«) and to the theatres in Stuttgart, Magdeburg and Koblenz.

In 2001, the scholarship holder of the Vienna-Prague-Budapest Summer Academy and the Richard Wagner Association in Cologne was awarded the 3rd prize in the Mihály Székely Singing Competition in Jászberény, and in 2011 she received the Offenbach Prize from the Friends of Cologne Opera. In the same year, she was awarded 1st prize and the Special Orchestra Prize at the Symphonies dʼAutomne competition.

In the season 2013/2014 she sang at the Theater Hof, at the Staatsoperette Dresden and at the Staatstheater Nürnberg (Marie in »Die Regimentstochter«, La Folie in »Platée« and Blonde). 2014/2015 she became member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, where she appeared on stage in roles like Sand- und Taumännchen (»Hänsel und Gretel«), Waldvogel (»Siegfried«), Oscar (»Un ballo in maschera«), Susanna (»Le nozze di Figaro«), Musetta (»La bohème«), Frasquita (»Carmen«), Amour and Zima (»Les Indes galantes«), Zerlina (»Don Giovanni«) and Gilda (»Rigoletto«).

At the Gärtnerplatztheater she appeared as Blonde in »Die Entführung aus dem Serail«, as Engel in »La resurrezione« and as Cunegonde in »Candide«.
