Christoph Seidl
The Austrian bass Christoph Seidl, after initial singing instruction in his native city of Weitra, in 2008 began studying singing with Ralf Döring at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna where he had already taken courses in voice training with Martin Vacha. He completed master courses with Angelika Kirchschlager, Thomas Hampson and Helmut Deutsch; he also held a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Society and was top prize winner at the International Professor Dichler Competition.
In productions by Vienna Music University the roles Christoph Seidl sang included that of Colline in »La bohème«, Sarastro in »Die Zauberflöte« and Antonio and Dr. Bartolo in »Le nozze di Figaro«. In 2011 he also sang Antonio in connection with Bamberg Summer Opera at the E.T.A. Hoffmann Theater, as well as singing the sparrow in the opera parody »Die schwarze Frau« by Adolph Müller in connection with the Gmunden Spring Musical Theatre as well as in a guest appearance in Weitra. In the same year he also performed as Masetto and as Commendatore in »Don Giovanni« at the Semmering Summer Dream Festival. In the field of church music, this young bass has also been heard as a soloist in masses by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert and has appeared as a concert singer in numerous cities in Germany and Austria.
In 2013 Christoph Seidl made his debut in a new production of Shostakovich's »Lady Macbeth von Mzensk« under Theodor Currentzis and directed by Andreas Homoki at the Zurich Opera House. During the 2013/2014 season he was a member of the opera studio there and his singing engagements included Hans Schwarz in »Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«, the portrait in Martinů's »Zweimal Alexander«, Araldo in »Otello« and the Second Prisoner in »Fidelio«.
In connection with the Salzburg Festival's Young Singers Project he sang Osmin in »Die Entführung aus dem Serail für Kinder« and was active under Antonio Pappano and Peter Stein as Deputato in »Don Carlo« in the Large Festival House. He additionally took on the Janissary solo in »Die Entführung aus dem Serail« under Hans Graf and directed by Adrian Marthaler.
From 2014 to 2016 Christoph Seidl was a member of the Young Ensemble of Theater an der Wien where he sang, among others, Gremin in »Eugen Onegin« and was most recently heard as the Major Domo in »Capriccio« in Tatjana Gürbaca's stage production, conducted by Bertrand de Billy.
Since the 2016/2017 season he has been a member of the ensemble of Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where he appeared in roles like Baculus (»Der Wildschütz«), Alidoro (»La Cenerentola«), Somnus (»Semele«), Komtur (»Don Giovanni«) and Sarastro (»Die Zauberflöte«).
