Choir
Christian Schwabe was born in Mannheim, where he also received his first singing lessons from Renate Fried-Bender before beginning his vocal studies with Rudolf Piernay at the Mannheim University of Music in 1991. From 1989‒1994, he sang in the choir of the Bayreuth Youth Festival. His first engagements took him to the Theater des Westens in Berlin, where he sang in Kurt Weill’s »Street Scene«, and to the Schwetzingen Festival, where he was part of the chorus in a production of Salieri’s »Falstaff«.
Christian Schwabe has been a member of the chorus of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz as 1st bass since September 1995, where he has since also appeared in several smaller solo roles, including as Lord Mickleford’s servant (»Martha«), as Flora’s servant (»La traviata«), as Patroklus (»Iphigenie in Aulis«), as a servant (»Capriccio«) and as a wedding guest (»Der Wildschütz«).
