Stage Direction
Brigitte Fassbaender
Brigitte Fassbaender was born in Berlin and studied singing with her father, Kammersänger Willy Domgraf-Fassbaender. At the age of 21, she made her début at the Bayerische Staatsoper, from which point her spectacular international career took off. She appeared as a guest performer in all of the world’s leading opera houses and sang all the great roles in her genre. Around 300 recordings bear witness to her major significance as a singer. One of the milestones in her career was the recording of the three great Schubert cycles; she is the only female singer to date to have achieved this. She was awarded the title »Bayerische Kammersängerin« in 1970.
Brigitte Fassbaender has devoted herself completely to directing since 1995, and has staged over 90 productions in Germany and abroad during that time. From 1999 to 2012 she was Artistic Director of the Tiroler Landestheater und Orchester GmbH Innsbruck. She cares particularly about the young singer generation: She was jury member for many international competitions and is the Artistic Manager of »Eppaner Lied Sommer«, which has become an internationally respected event for Lieder and master classes. From 2009 to 2017, she was the Artistic Director of the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, since 2017, she is the patron of the Internationale Meistersinger Akademie (IMA).
She made her Munich début as a director in 2012 with »Don Pasquale« at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz where she staged also »La Cenerentola« and »Der junge Lord«.
