Bregje van Balen

Bregje van Balen was born in Haarlem in the Netherlands and trained as a dancer at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam. She was a member of the company of the Nederlands Dans Theater for 18 years. Whilst she was still active as a dancer, she also regularly worked as a costume designer and after quitting the stage, she attended the Baruch Fashion Academy in Amsterdam.

She has designed costumes for such groups as the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Norwegian National Ballet, the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, the Hamburg Ballet, Introdans, the Győri Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet. During this time, she worked with such choreographers as Patrick Delcroix, Jorma Elo, Medhi Walerski, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, Kaloyan Boyadjiev, Alexander Ekman, Johan Inger and Jo Strømgren.

At the Gärtnerplatztheater, she created the costumes for »Arsen – Ein Rokokothriller«.
