Birte Wallbaum
Born in Kiel, Birte Wallbaum trained as a stage and costume designer at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. After graduating, she was hired as a stage design assistant at the Basel Theatre. There she worked with David Bösch (»Elektra«), Stefan Kimmig (»King Arthur«), Daniela Kranz (»Die drei Räuber«, »Das fliegende Klassenzimmer«), Guillermo Calderon (»Goldrausch«), Nora Schlocker (»Urfaust«) and the choreographers Johann Inger (»Peer Gynt«) and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (»Satyagraha«), among others. In 2019, she worked at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, where she created the costume design for Florian Fischer’s production of »Operation Kamen«, which was invited to the Radikal-Jung-Festival in Munich.
From 2019‒2024, Birte Wallbaum was a permanent set and costume designer at the Nordhausen Theatre. Here she designed costume and stage sets for opera, ballet and theatre. She created works with, among others with Tomo Sugao (»Jedermann«), Benjamin Prins (»Turandot«, »Don Giovanni«, »Im weißen Rössl«), Matthias Kitter (»Così fan tutte«), Achim Lenz (»Die Zauberflöte«), Annette Leistenschneider (»Madama Butterfly«), Saskia Kuhlmann (»Die lustige Witwe«), Florian Hackspiel (»Le nozze di Figaro«) and the choreographer Martin Harriague (»Les Noches«). She works closely with the choreographer and director Ivan Alboresi (»Petrushka«, »Carmen«, »Inside Us« and »Verklärte Nacht«). She has been working as a freelancer since 2024.
