Bettina Bartz

Born in East Berlin, Bettina Bartz studied theatre sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin and has worked since 1983 as an artistic advisor for various music theatres, including Oper Graz, the Hamburg State Opera, the Aalto Theatre Essen, Komische Oper Berlin, the Flemish Opera of Antwerp-Ghent, De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Theater an der Wien and Theater Bern. From 1998 to 2000, she was chief dramaturge at the Brandenburg Theatre, and at Oper Leipzig from 2008 to 2010. She has worked with such directors as Anselm Weber, Antje Kaiser, Horst Kupich, Tatjana Gürbaca, Vera Nemirova, Tatjana Rese and Jochen Biganzoli, and also regularly since 2001 with Gisela Höhne in the inclusive theatre »RambaZamba«. She has written radio programmes and childrenʼs plays, with »Planet der Drachen« receiving an award from the childrenʼs jury in Cologne in 2013. In 2014 she was awarded the Arts Prize of the Berlin Academy of the Arts in the area of »Performing Arts«. She is the author of German text versions of operas by Mozart, Salieri, Verdi, Bizet, Auber, Cherubini, Donizetti, Paisiello, Offenbach, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Handel and Gluck, mostly together with Werner Hintze. She has collaborated regularly with Peter Konwitschny for many years.
