Soloist
Barbara Obermeier comes from a family of musicians and grew up near Munich. In 2002, she began her training at the Abraxas Musical Academy in Munich and received her first engagement as Sophie and Sisi in the world premiere of »Ludwig²« at the Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein in Füssen while still in training in 2005. This was followed by »Les Misérables« and »Jekyll & Hyde« at the Bad Hersfeld Festival and Cedric in »Little Lord Fauntleroy« on tour at the Deutsches Theater in Munich and elsewhere.
She performed in Vienna for the first time in 2008 in »Rebecca«. In 2009 she created the role of Valentine de Villefort in the world premiere of »The Count of Monte Christo« at the Theater St. Gallen. In Gutenstein she appeared as Helene Flöge in »Gustav Klimt«. Afterwards she was on stage for two years as Vampire and Sarah in »Dance of the Vampires« at the Ronacher Theatre in Vienna. During this time she took part in events such as »Opera meets Musical«, »Musical Forever II« and charity galas for Haiti. Also at Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, she played Mary Robert in »Sister Act« and in 2013 Elle Woods in the German-language premiere of »Legally Blonde« and took on the role of Meg Giry in a concert version of »Love Never Dies«. At the Landestheater Linz she played Cosette in »Les Misérables«, Magnolia in »Show Boat«, April in »Company« and Sally in The Who’s »Tommy«, among others. In 2015 she appeared at Vienna’s Raimund Theatre as Nannerl in »Mozart!«, followed in 2016 by her first engagement at the Vienna Volksoper as Maria Rainer in »The Sound of Music«. At the Musical Sommer Amstetten she subsequently appeared on stage as Ariel Moore in »Footloose«, Crissy in »Hair« and as the comedic rock singer Sherrie in »Rock of Ages«. Back in Vienna, she embodied Mary Magdalene in a concert performance of »Jesus Christ Superstar« at Vereinigte Bühnen Wien.
Back home in Bavaria, she was back on stage at the Deutsches Theater in 2018, after more than 10 years, as Mary Cullen in »Der Medicus«. In 2019 she played Lilli Vanessi in »Kiss me, Kate« at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and went to Vienna again for three years to interpret Jellylorum/Griddlebone and Grizabella in »Cats«.
