Armin Kahl
Armin Kahl was born in Erlangen, Germany, and trained at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich, during which time he appeared on stage in pieces such as »City of Angels«, »Lucky Stiff« and »On the Town« in the Prinzregententheater and made his debut at the Bregenz Festival in »West Side Story«.
Immediately after graduating, the two-time prize-winner of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang, Germany's national singing competition, was given the role of Sky in the premiere cast of the Stuttgart production of »Mamma Mia!« and then toured Germany as Radames, Zoser and Pharaoh in the Stage Entertainment production of Elton John's »Aida«. In the first performance of the musical »Elisabeth – Legende einer Heiligen« in Eisenach, he created the role of Landgrave Ludwig IV of Thuringia and played Fred and Costa in the premiere cast of the Udo Jürgens musical »Ich war noch niemals in New York« at the Hamburg Operetta House, before moving to Hamburg’s Neue Flora in Disney’s »Tarzan« where he played the title role, among others. In addition, he appeared in such roles as Curtis Shanks and TJ in »Sister Act« in the Hamburg Operetta House, Zoser in »Aida« at the Lake Thun Festival and Reginald van Cleef in the first German-language performance of »Dinosaurier« at the Renaissancetheater in Vienna. At the Musicalsommer Winzendorf and the Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg he played the title role in »Zorro«, in Winzendorf and Magdeburg further Richelieu in »3 Musketiere«.
At Vereinigte Bühnen Wien he played such parts as Gangle in the first German-language performance of »Love Never Dies«, Professor Callahan in »Legally Blonde«, Alfred Ill in »Der Besuch der alten Dame«, George Banks in »Mary Poppins« and Benedikt Schack in the world premiere of »Schikaneder«.
At the Gärtnerplatztheater, where he has been a member of the ensemble since the 2021/2022 season, Armin Kahl made his debut as Vicomte de Valmont in the world premiere of the musical »Gefährliche Liebschaften«. He also played the title role in »Jesus Christ Superstar«, Tick in the German premiere of »Priscilla ‒ Queen of the Desert«, Dr. Fritz Hagedorn in the operetta premiere of »Drei Männer im Schnee« (for which he was awarded the »German Musical Theatre Prize 2019« as »Best Actor in a Leading Role«), Sigismund Sülzheimer in »Im weißen Rössl«, Stefan in the world premiere of »Rockin’ Rosie« and Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels in the European premiere of »Tootsie«.
