Ana Maria Labin

The soprano Ana Maria Labin was born in Romania and grew up in Switzerland. While still a student at the Zurich University of the Arts, she won first prize at the »Concours Ernst Haefliger« in Bern and made her debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Valencienne in Lehár’s »Lustige Witwe«.

She quickly established herself as an internationally sought-after Mozart interpreter. She sang Fiordiligi (»Così fan tutte«), La Contessa Almaviva (»Le nozze di Figaro«) and Donna Anna (»Don Giovanni«) in the Da Ponte trilogy at the Swedish Castle Theatre Drottningholm, at the Royal Opera Versailles and at the Liceu Barcelona under Marc Minkowski and directed by Ivan Alexandre. She appeared as Konstanze in »Die Entführung aus dem Serail« at the Opera House Glyndebourne, sang La Contessa Almaviva at the Cologne Opera, Arminda in »La finta giardiniera« in Aix-en-Provence, Pamina in »Die Zauberflöte« at the Opera Festival St. Margarethen and Aspasia in Mozart’s »Mitridate« at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin.

Concert and guest engagements have taken her mainly as a singer of baroque music to Eisenstadt for the title role in Haydn’s »Armida« under Enrico Onofri, to Glyndebourne as Armida in Handel’s »Rinaldo« under Laurence Cummings, as Bellezza in Handel’s »Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno« under Ottavio Dantone and Handel’s »Semele« under Leonardo García Alarcón to the Festival de Beaune, among others. She has also appeared at the Göttingen Handel Festival, the Festival Présences Radio France, with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Turin and at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest with the Musiciens du Louvre, at the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu, the Brucknerfest Linz, at the Schwetzingen Festival and at opera houses such as the Opéra National de Paris, the Semperoper Dresden and the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich under conductors such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe Herreweghe, Adam Fischer, Christian Thielemann, Antonello Manacorda, Vladimir Jurowski and Alexander Joel. At the Gärtnerplatztheater she debuts as the Countess in »Figaros Hochzeit«.
