Alfred Mayerhofer

The Austrian costume designer lives in Vienna. Since 1992 he has received international engagements for numerous operas, musical theatre and drama projects, ballets, cinema films, TV films and series.

Recent work has taken him to renowned opera houses and theatres, including the Vienna State Opera (»Dantons Tod«, »Lohengrin«), the Sydney Opera House (»L’incoronazione di Poppea«), the Opéra National de Lyon (»Rigoletto«), the Komische Oper Berlin (»Des Kaisers neue Kleider«, »Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer«, »Kiss me, Kate«, »Iphigenie auf Tauris«), the Staatsoper Hannover (»Le nozze di Figaro«, »La Juive«, »Der junge Lord«, »Werther«), the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona (»Il barbiere di Siviglia«), the Semperoper Dresden (»The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein«), the Staatsoper Stuttgart (»Hänsel und Gretel«), the Staatstheater Nürnberg (»Wozzeck«, »Der Ring des Nibelungen«), the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen (»Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny«, »Tristan und Isolde«, »Der fliegende Holländer«), the Frankfurt Opera (»Iolanta«, »Oedipus Rex«), the Theater in der Josefstadt Vienna (»The Parisian Woman«, »Die Reise der Verlorenen«, »Jägerstätter«) and the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (»La bohème« »Viktoria und ihr Husar«, »Candide«, »Gefährliche Liebschaften«, »Priscilla ‒ Queen of the Desert«, »Tootsie«, among others).

He also designed the costume designs for the TV series »Ich und die Anderen«, »M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder«, »Altes Geld«, »Braunschlag« and the movie »Murer – Anatomie eines Prozesses«.

Alfred Mayerhofer has received numerous awards for his work, including the »German Musical Theatre Award 2015« for »Gefährliche Liebschaften« at the Gärtnerplatztheater, the »Austrian Film Award 2019« for »Murer – Anatomie eines Prozesses« and the »Prize of the 26th International Small Scenes Theatre Festival« in Rijeka (Croatia) for »Die Reise der Verlorenen«.
