Alexander Kreuselberg

Alexander Kreuselberg studied musicology at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Alongside his studies, he worked as an intern with Rosamund Gilmore, Matthias Davids and Immo Karaman, among others, and was assistant director at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. In Austria, he assisted the director Herbert Adler at the Wagner Festival Wels with the productions »Parsifal«, »Lohengrin«, »Tristan und Isolde«, »Der fliegende Holländer« and »Tannhäuser« and at the jOpera Festival Summer Jennersdorf with the directors Robert Herzl, Dominik Wilgenbus and Josef E. Köpplinger. He also worked on »Moses und Aron« and »Die Soldaten« at the RuhrTriennale. In the summers of 2016 and 2017, he assisted Katharina Wagner at the Bayreuth Festival (»Tristan und Isolde«).

He gained his first directing experience in collaboration with the ensemble Laetita Cantandi (conductor: Patrick Thomas Jaskolka) in the production of »Dido and Aeneas« by Purcell. From 2013 to 2022, he worked as an assistant director and evening director at Bühnen Bern, collaborating with Ludger Engels, Lydia Steier, Markus Bothe, Nigel Lowery, Florentine Klepper, Adriana Altaras and Stephan Märki, among others. In the 2015/2016 season, he staged the children’s opera »Ritter Odilo und der strenge Herr Winter« by Mareike Zimmermann, a scenic evening with songs by the Comedian Harmonists and Otto Schenk’s »Die Sternstunde des Josef Bieder« at the Kubus. In 2018, his production of Menotti’s »The Medium« was staged in the Mansarde. He also brought »La serva padrona« by Pergolesi and »Die Fledermaus« to the stage of the Bern City Theatre. Since 2022, Alexander Kreuselberg has been assistant director and stage manager at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
