Fedora Wesseler

Fedora Wesseler comes from Cologne and studied general and comparative literature, musicology and Italian. During her studies, she worked as an assistant director at the Ruhrtriennale and the Salzburg Festival and undertook her first literary translations into German and French. In 2011, she graduated »summa cum laude« from the Sorbonne with a thesis on opera and theatre at the turn of the century. This was followed by engagements as a dramaturge in Zurich, Bielefeld and at the Salzburg Festival. From 2015‒2018, she was head dramaturge for music theatre and concerts at Theater Lübeck. Between 2019 and 2024, she was a dramaturge at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.

In addition to numerous academic essays, she has published translations of theatre plays, prose (Thomas Hürlimann, »Quarante roses«), opera libretti and poetry (including works by Hofmannsthal, Beer-Hofmann, Dehmel) and, together with Stefan Schmidl, edited the volume »Oscar Straus. Annäherungen an einen zu Unrecht Vergessenen« (Amsterdam, Operetta Research Centre, 2017); together with Thomas Hürlimann, she compiled the Gottfried-Keller-Lesebuch (Frankfurt, Fischer) for the Gottfried Keller anniversary in 2019. Her translation (together with Jean-Yves Masson) of the anthology »Presque un chant« by Durs Grünbein (Gallimard, 2019) was awarded the »Prix Alain Bosquet«.
